Grant Programs Overview

Victim Service Providers

The Utah Office for Victims of Crime (UOVC) Grants Department administers federal and state funding to support victim service programs across Utah. These grants help ensure individuals and families impacted by crime have access to safe, effective services in their communities.

In addition to funding, UOVC provides program oversight, training, and technical assistance to strengthen victim service organizations and support a coordinated statewide response to victims’ needs.

Victim Confidentiality Requirements

Programs that receive funding through the Utah Office for Victims of Crime must protect the privacy of the victims they serve. In most situations, programs cannot share information that could identify a victim without the victim’s written permission.

Protecting Victim Information

Personally identifying information may include a victim’s name, date of birth, address, phone number, or other details that could reveal who they are. Programs must take steps to keep this information private and secure.

When Information Can Be Shared

If information needs to be shared with another service provider or partner, the victim must give informed, written permission. This permission must clearly state what information can be shared and how long the permission lasts.

When Disclosure May Be Required

In limited situations, a court order or state law may require a program to share certain information. When this happens, programs must still take reasonable steps to notify the victim when possible and protect their privacy and safety.
