Know Before You Apply

Grant Funding Opportunities

We encourage applicants to review the following information before starting an application:

For federal funding, your organization must be registered in SAM.gov to be eligible to apply.
Review the eligibility requirements for the funding source you plan to apply for.
Make sure your organization can meet any required match, if applicable.
Be ready to explain how your project supports victims and aligns with UOVC priorities.
Consider whether your organization has the capacity to manage federal or state grant funds.
Be prepared to show how your organization is connected to the community you plan to serve.
Applicants must complete the required Civil Rights and Anti-Discrimination training before receiving funding. Training information can be found here: Department of Criminal Justice Civil Rights Training

Application Information

All applications are submitted through UOVC’s online grant system. Once the funding opportunity opens, applicants may register for the required application training, where instructions will be provided on how to create a login and access the full application.

UOVC may provide applicant training, question-and-answer sessions, or guidance materials during the application period.

UOVC is committed to supporting organizations that may face barriers related to technology access or language. Programs that need assistance in these areas are encouraged to request technical support.

Outside of these specific requests, UOVC cannot provide individual guidance on how to structure an application.

While each funding opportunity may vary, UOVC’s general grant cycle includes:

Funding announcement and application training
Public question and answer period
Application submission deadline
Application review and scoring
Award notification and revision period
Funded projects begin July 1

Specific dates and steps are included in the funding opportunity listing and in the application materials available in the Grant Management System after a login is created.

How Applications Are Reviewed

UOVC uses a structured and consistent review process to evaluate all applications. Applications are reviewed by trained staff and external peer reviewers with experience in victim services. Reviewers consider how well each application:

Shows a need for services
Supports victims in a fair and effective way
Aligns with funding priorities
Demonstrates connection to the community served
Shows the ability to manage grant funds

Final award decisions consider reviewer input, available funding, statewide service needs, and approval by the Department of Criminal Justice.

Organizations that receive UOVC funding enter into a formal grant agreement and are responsible for meeting financial, program, and reporting requirements throughout the award period.

Funded organizations can expect to:

Submit regular financial and program reports
Request funding through reimbursement
Track services provided to victims
Participate in monitoring or check-in meetings with UOVC staff
Follow federal and state grant requirements
Maintain records to support expenses and activities

UOVC provides guidance, training, and technical assistance to help funded programs meet these responsibilities.
