I have received medical bills for crime-related medical visits. What do I do?

  • Contact your medical provider, provide them with your claim number, and ask them to send the bills directly to UOVC.
  • According to 63M-7-521.5., when a person files a claim for compensation, doctors and hospitals must stop trying to collect money for those medical bills. They must not call or send letters saying they will try to collect the debt, and they cannot take the person to court to get the money until the office makes a decision on the claim. If you are experiencing any issues, please contact our office by phone or email as soon as possible.

How do I get a protective order?
While UOVC does not offer direct assistance with protective orders, other victim advocates can provide support. You can locate a victim advocate in your area by using the concern center. For detailed information on the process of filing a protective order, please click here.
